Level 1 Handgun for Security Guards

The level 1 Handgun for Security Officers course is an introductory course focusing on the fundamental aspects of the handgun.
This course will cover the inefficiencies and fundamentals seen by many security personnel in the field due to lack of training, or funding to train on a regular basis. We address these areas and drive home the importance of solid fundamentals and regular training for the officers wherever possible through on-range and dryfire practice. Utilizing high repetition drills and manipulations of their firearms, this class will give them a much stronger foundation, confidence, and competency for operating in the field as an armed security officer. This course is required to attend the Level 2 Defensive Handgun Course for Security Guards unless approved otherwise.

The Level 2 Course puts more emphasis on manipulation, movement, variables, and concealment & cover while under stress.

Course Outline

Safety Brief

  • Firearms safety rules
  • Range safety rules
  • The 7 fundamentals of good shooting
  • Duty belt / Vest set up. How are we carrying our gear
  • Shooting from the holster
  • Draw Stroke
  • Trigger index and discipline
  • Muzzle, sights, eyes, what do we see
  • Dry-fire manipulation and practice with the firearm, including reloads
  • Malfunctions and Immediate Action Drills
  • Type 1 / 2 / 3 Malfunctions

Dryfire Training

  • From the draw, full presentation, and reupholstering
  • Diagnostics of fundamentals and corrective actions

Live-Fire Course

Static Drills:

  • Full presentation, 1-3 rounds center A-Zone chest & head areas
  • Bill Drill timed
  • Failure to Stop Drill
  • Manipulation and Reloads

Movement Drills:

  • Moving off the X
  • Reloading and moving

BSIS Standard Qualification Shoot

Required Kit:

• A working firearm being carried while on duty
• 3 magazines or speed loaders
• Duty belt w/ holster or vest
• Magazine pouches
• Eye & ear protection
• Sunscreen
• Hat
• Water & snacks

Loadout: 250 rounds
